THIS GREEN HAS GOT TO GO

To the creator,

I sent you an email on Saturday enquiring about the evil nature of the green text that comes free with this pebble layout.

As much as I love lime green, I can't bloody read it so can we PLEASE change it for a more legible colour-I'm talking about the green text on my calendar; the title of the post; the content of the post etc.

To fit in with this, another blue might go nicely - preferably dark or something legible.

TA VERY MUCH,

Dan.

FRESH

Welcome to my latest online offering.
Finding it a real pain in the aris being confined to writing posts solely about music, I have decided to widen my avenues and so will basically keep a diary of sorts.

Here you'll find my rants; inner thoughts; descriptions of worthwhile weekly events should they occur; the odd film and music reviews and bitching of course!! Don't expect to become enlightened about me though.

If any of you want to ask any questions about anything or want to consult me about anything at all, feel free but don't feel pressured.

Best wishes,

HB

I QUIT

Yes, the time has come for me to announce my......................

HA, Bet you're expecting me to resign are you not? Well I hate to disappoint you but I am getting a little bit bored of having to purely make posts of a musical nature. I know music plays a major part in my life - it's my occupation, 1 of my favourite hobbies and a constant companion BUT I need a break!

I'll still tell you all about music I think you should check out and also slam crappy mush in the charts but the time has come for a bit of diversity.

Song remains the same!

For some bizarre reason I love Eamon's ode to cheerios "Love them 'O's" and think it should be the next number 1!

However, I listened to the B-side which is called "#1 Fan" and then in brackets ("F.U.R.B.B.") and surprise surprise, it's yet another chapter in the Eamon-Frankie Don't want you, fuck you right back saga. This new instalment is slightly humourous as Eamon ridicules Frankie and accuses her of being a stalker! Very tongue in cheek but when will they stop??

I'm anticipating a greatest hits collection pretty soon-question and answer with the tracklisting as follows....(purely fictional now)

1) EAMON - Don't want you back (the original)
2) FRANKEE - Fuck You Right Back (the answer)
3) EAMON - # 1 FAN (FURBB) ( the B-side I explained about earlier)
4) FRANKEE - WHY ANSWER BACK? (Frankie's response to Eamon's b-side to "Love them Ho's".
5) EAMON & FRANKEE - BACK together again (a cover of the old Roberta Flack & Donny Hathaway song)

What do you think? Plausible or what?

REMEMBRANCE DAY

Has a week really gone by???? YES, IT BLOODY WELL HAS!
Scary thing is, I've been 18 for over a week now.

WHAT A FANTASTIC NIGHT WE HAD - THANKS TO ALL OF YOU WHO TURNED UP.

Running late as always was I, still doing my hair when the Limo turned up so tumbled into the Limo holding about 20 things at once-including a glass of champagne. Running late as Jordan said he wanted to see how I did my hair the kinky get! Lol-only joking Jord. Ben and Jord bought me this super cool mini digital camera and if it hadn't of been for me getting disposable ones, I'd have taken it out.

Limo went off and there I was screaming along to Love Shack and then Groove is in the heart-apologies to Ben who was sitting right next to me! On the way there, Jordan kept on annoying the driver asking if he cold open the roof-bearing in mind it was raining and I had made us late by putting the finishing touches to my hair.

Picked up the girls (Raya, "Don't jip the Nic" Nicola, Jenny, Hayleigh and Caroline) as well as Bubbs and we bundled them all into the Limo. Cackling our way into town and downing two magnums of Champagne, we then fell out onto St. Mary St and hurled ourselves into Pizza Hut, to be met by a Stars in their Eyes Lionel Richie lookalike (the waiter.)

We all sat down and made his life a misery as me, Jen and Raya kept on singing "All Night Long" and "Hello" when he walked off and came back-I think he got the joke! Someone forgot to tell Caroline that we were having a meal and she'd already eaten but still had something to eat. I was still merry from the night b4 (my actual birthday) but continued to down stella, this gorgeous wine that Nic ordered and also mixing them both with the remainder of the champagne that Head Boy 2 smuggled in!
The bottles were concealed under tha table but kept on falling over!

Food was marvellous and even Bubbs ate something too (wow!) Tried these evil spicy peppers even tho Caz told me not to - she is so much wiser than I.... Still the pizza was fantastic and we also shared this wicked salad that me and Nic picked. People had dessert, much to mine and Nic's dismay as we felt like we were gonna be sick by that time.

Mum and Maria surprised me and I introduced them to everyone.... After they left, everyone was like "No way is that your Mum...." They gave us the Camera and so we took some photees (which I will get copies of too).

Raya was especially nice to Ben as she's a sweetheart and Jen joined in with my singing and warned ppl not to touch her food. Caroline and me had a minibitch about Curtain and Jen, Raya and Nic and me just cackled all nite long.

Sadly we had to say bye bye to Nic, Raya and Jen as they had work the next day but I still love them 4 coming out but did miss them terribly.Had a phone call from the legendary Lee McCarthy and met him in the Gatekeeper with Legend Chapman and we had a few drinks. Had to queue forever with Ben and we had a long chat before joining everyone else back at the side. I was on the Archers and Bacardi by this time, as well as the Red Bull.

Went over to Jaks and even Babyface Bubbs and Junior Jordan got in - woohoo! Tunes were wicked in Jaks-me, Lee, Chapman and Matt hit the dancefloor where I reminisced my days of smoking by accepting Lee's offer of a ciggy. YES, SHOCK SHOCK HORROR - HEAD BOY SMOKING!!!! I know Jordan had the look of sheer disbelief on his face at one point!

Party really started when Maria & Mum arrived but before then we had bumped into Emma, Hayleigh, Lucy, Han, Charlotte etc. from school and so we were all dancing to Whitney, bit of Madge, Beyonce and loads of other banging tunes. Bubbs enjoyed himself and must say knows how to party, not that I'm surprised really.

Mum and her best friend Maria are the ultimate party animals-they are both so wicked and I love them to bits. Thanks for coming you two-I hope I didn't cramp your style too much.

Went home about 1.30 but had to wait for Mum and Maria to come back from Chippy Lane but as we were leaving Jaks, they played "Build me up buttercup" so me, Mum and Maria were doing a karaeoke version along to that outside.
Trust me, it was class!

Limo took everyone home and that was that.
Can't really remember much so you'd better take a look at Bubbs' version to be honest as he was far less hammered than I! I just have the photees as a reminder.

THANKS FOR COMING Y'ALL - Raya, Nic, Caroline, Hayleigh, Jen, Jordan, Matt, Maria, Mum, Lee, Chapman, and of course special thanks to Mr. Peregrine.

MY OPINION-BEST NITE OUT EVER AND THE ONLY WAY TO CELEBRATE AN 18TH.

THANKS FOR MAKING IT POSSIBLE MUM & PAUL AS WELL AS ALL MY AMAZING FRIENDS WHO I WILL LOVE FOREVER.

Hugs and kisses,

Dan

October Oldies?!

Hey Y'all,

Well September flew by although it didn't help that for the majority of it I've been up to my eyes in work and suffering from the Flu from Hell!

I'm anticipating the following tunes to make it big and will say that I could have kicked myself when Erik Prydz - "Call on me" stormed itself to Number 1 after hearing the bloody thing whilst decorating the Common Room in early September. For those fans of their oldies, that obviously samples Stevie Winwood's "Valerie" and I knew it was gonna be big- believe me!

Anyhow, apart from Twista's "Sunshine," which samples the classic "lovely
day"by Bill Withers and has made it big, I'm expecting the following to do the same....

1) CHRISTINA 'DERRRTY AS YA LIKE' AGUILERA & MISSY ELLIOTT - CAR WASH

Yet another cover of a Rose Royce classic. Although nowhere near as good as the original, this version is instantly recognisable as "Car Wash" and it could be worse I guess, as in something out of Stars on 45 days!
Made a few people laugh by singing along to this in the Common Room - ('m a sad old git who knows all the words ya see.)

2) MARIO WINANS - NEVER REALLY WAS.

This man is a genius! About time somebody sampled another Madge groove, but especially one from the album which was out when I was born(awww shucks!) This killer cut steals the dramatic soap opera style violins from "Papa Don't Preach" and works them into another tale of love gone wrong. Different to "I Don't wanna know" in many ways and god doesn't he sound like R. Kelly in this one?

check 'em out!

Love and kisses,

Dan.

August, die she must....

Well August is another one of those months which just passes you by.

My musical highlight of course occurred on the 19th when I went back home and got a train to Paddington and from there had a look around town (London now, not that wannabe of a "capital city" which I so often frequent) and got back to Piccadilly Circus, had something to eat before making my way to Earl's Court!

Yes, my holiday this year and an early birthday present, I got to see my all time favourite artist, the Queen of Pop herself.............................................

MADONNA!

I'll get a load of stick now but I've grown up listening to her music and seeing her live is just absolutely one of the best musical experiences ever. She gets better with age as I saw her live back in '93 at Wembley and from what I can remember, she is a much better live performer now than she's ever been if you compare the two concerts.

She did a brilliant selection from her back catalogue including such classics as Holiday, Papa Don't Preach, Material Girl, Into the Groove, my all time favourite Like a Prayer but most surprising of all, her ultimate ballad Crazy For You as well as a selection from her latest album "American Life" and songs from "Ray of Light" and "Music."

In one word, SPECTACULAR!

Definitely the best concert I've ever seen.

Don't ever tell her to stop, MADGE IS THE QUEEN OF POP!

TIME PASSAGES

Good song-check it out! One of Al Stewart's best ever tunes.
I can't believe how quickly the time's going- a sign of age I guess.

Hope everyone's ok-just letting you Cyres folk know that we're redecorating the Common Room next week if you want to help out?

TREBLE D'S TOP THREE TO TRACK

Hey Y'all,

Some forthcoming releases for you all here to check out...

1) PAUL WELLER - WISHING ON A STAR

Yes, the godfather has returned and yes, he has covered the classic 1978 soul anthem "Wishing on a star" by Rose Royce, giving the song a whole new feeling and probably one which Gwen Dickey herself wouldn't disapprove of. The album "Studio 150" is due to be released in mid-September so I'm told. If you loved the original, I'm sure you'll admire this. Hey, it's Weller-how can you not like it??

2) MAROON 5 - SHE WILL BE LOVED

Receiving extensive airplay on BBC Radio 2 and various music channels as well, the follow up to May's "This Love" is a stark contrast but definitely a killer tune. I always think it's a good idea to release chilled, ballady type songs in late August and that's exactly what Maroon 5 have done. This sounds gorgeous on these hot summer nights.

3) MACY GRAY - LOVE IS GONNA GET YA

So far, it's only on the C-List of the nations' most listened to Radio Station, BBC Radio 2 (I'm not plugging them honestly!) but another instantly recognisable track from the diva that is Macy. Her vocals are so raw and powerful and this track is hopefully going to be included on her forthcoming Best of album-I know, she's only been around for 5 years so how can she have a best of out? If you like your summer soul and haven't found 2004's answer to Angie Stone's "Wish I didn't miss you" or even something from Beyonce's "Dangerously in love" album, look no further!
Quite bouncy for Macy and I love it!

Well I hope you find the time to check these out-ENJOY!

Seeking solace...

Apart from the fabulous tunes such as "Thunderbirds are go," or the groovy "Lola's theme" by the Shapeshifters, I've also been loving the new tune from Amy Winehouse's debut album "Frank" which is called "Help yourself." Please don't confuse it with the so-called classic track of the same name by Tom Jones now!

AMY WINEHOUSE's "Help Yourself" has one of those fantastic summer grooves to it-very chilled and it gets better every time you hear it. If you're into your new age Jazz stuff then this is for you-definitely worth checking out.

The other one to mention is the latest offering from the Charlatans-one of the surviving groups from the early 90s Madchester scene. The track in question is called "Try another day" and it is one of those songs which will get firmly stuck in your head, driving you mad 24-7-the signs of pure love for a song by the way!
